Merry Christmas 2016 !!! Well here is where the 81 quilts and 107 Christmas Stockings were distributed this year: 107 Christmas stockings and 14 quilts to the homeless family program, 8 to individuals, 20 to the Vets Hospital, 23 to the Metro NICU Unit, and 16 to the Children that Witness Violence Program. Great job ladies!!! You all are so special.

We still have over 40 quilts to be quilted and distributed for next year. I really hope to be caught up when I turn it over to whoever will be Community Service Chairperson.

I am retiring in June from doing Community Service after 13 years. Roberta has been working with me many years and is not going to take it over. She and I are working to make everything organized and the fabric will be scaled down. Please consider taking over this important position. I will be available to help you.

I am asking that if you would like to help cut fabric for kits, 5” squares or jelly rolls, please call me to set a date so we can work together at my house to get fabric ready to sell at the quilt show. I know now is a busy time, but consider scheduling time in January or at the Sew In. If you can help cut, you will have to bring your cutter, ruler and cutting mat. Please let me know if you want to cut during the Sew In. Thank you.

January 12 (Thursday) is our next Sew In at the North Olmsted Library. We start at 9:30 and end around 4:00. You can come for just a short time or all day. I know we have quite a few new people. Please consider coming to a Sew In. We piece and quilt the quilts and talk and laugh all day. All skill levels are appreciated. It is a great way to meet more guild members and help others. We share pizza or you can bring your lunch. There are beverages to buy at the library. Come and join us.

Barbara Richardson gives lots of upholstery fabric to the prison for sewing up items for sale. She had originally offered it to Community Service and therefore I am forwarding information about her opening of the Emerald & Violet Studio, 9722 Columbia Road, Olmsted Falls, Ohio 44138 (216.310.0080). She has lovely gifts for the holidays. Her shop hours are: Monday & Tuesday Closed, Wednesday 10 – 6, Thursday 10 – 6, Friday 10 – 6, Saturday 10 – 6, Sunday 1 – 6, or by Appointment. You can sign up for her newsletter at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. where she will share with you thought-provoking concepts about color dovetailed with images of elements that she has been creating. Please consider helping a local business that helps others.

Remember you can always get a quilt for someone you know that is going through a rough time in their life. Just contact me and you can pick a quilt. If you know of a place that could use our quilts, please let me know that also. I delivered a quilt to a wonderful lady going through chemo. She was so happy with it. She is going to use it to keep warm during her treatments.

If you have any questions or comments on the Sew Ins or Community Service, please do not hesitate to call me, Maryann Doucette.
